Prue Venables is one of Australia’s leading ceramicists, renowned for her fine porcelain work with compelling conceptual twists. After graduating with Honours in zoology from the University of Melbourne (1974), she moved to London to focus on classical flute.

It was during this time, in 1977, that she first encountered clay and discovered her lifelong vocation. She undertook a Diploma of Studio Pottery at Harrow College of Art, London (1983) and, after returning to Australia, a Master of Fine Art, Ceramics from RMIT, Melbourne (1995).
From the beginning of her practice, Venables has been fascinated with functional objects that, as she says, are at the core of life: ‘There is something so energising and wonderful about a beautiful pot.
